Mission

The ‘Five Marks of Mission’ of the worldwide Anglican Church are based on the life and mission of Jesus and give shape to who we are and what we do.

Tell

Proclaim the Good News of Jesus

Teach

Teach, baptise and nurture new believers

Tend

Respond to human need by loving service

Transform

Transform unjust structures of society, challenge violence of every kind, and pursue peace and reconciliation

Treasure

Strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth

Based on those five marks of mission, we aim to share Jesus' love with everyone—regardless of background—and focus on helping those in greatest need.

Through our inclusive worship services, faith discussions, and study groups we share the good news of Jesus in diverse, creative, and interactive ways.

We believe that the way we live our lives is equally important. Jesus calls us to “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16. The works of Jesus were a shining light, and they still shine.

At any given time, you will witness members of the All Souls family “shining,” through voluntary work at the Church and elsewhere in Christchurch; donations to the City Mission Food Bank; offertory (giving to the church), and responses to appeals and fundraisers. These are outward, observable signs of who we are and whose we are.

A portion of our offertory is gifted to Anglican Missions, (AM) the Global Missions Agency of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa New Zealand and Polynesia. Through our support of AM, we are actively involved in the work AM does with partners and agencies locally and overseas to fund missionaries, run aid and development projects and coordinate appeals for emergencies such as natural disasters.

“Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy…. That is not our business, and, in fact, it is nobody's business. What we are asked to do is to love, and this love itself will render both ourselves and our neighbours worthy.” Thomas Merton.
